I am aware that this is labelled under 'New Music', and despite only coming out last month, this song probably falls outside of that bracket now, but it's a great place to start for anyone who may have let this pass them by.
Released as part of Red Bull's 20 Before 15 project, ILoveMakonnen drafts in the help of Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig and everyone's favourite New York rapper Despot to remix one of his own tracks. Gloomy, and exceedingly honest, it's a great rework of a rough track but it definitely feels as if the guest artists are doing the heavy lifting.
Ezra comes through a brilliant end of year verse that references the iCloud hacks, Shmoney dancing, and even his own disliking for himself, before talking about his time in the Hamptons, while Despot keeps it as real as ever and focuses on the everyday hustle. The contradiction between the two verses makes it even more likable.
Enough talking though, listen to it above.
