Anyone who starts a band with a name like Drug Church likely aren't looking for mainstream airplay or bowing to convention, and the video for 'Bagged' from their sophomore LP Hit Your Head proves just that. Focusing around a schoolgirl seance, things get all sort of weird for the nameless high school jock.
The aggression prevails on the title track 'Hit Your Head, Greedy' and into 'Green Like Me', showcasing their blunt and authoritative style. If the vocals sound familiar then you may well recognise frontman Patrick Kindlon who is also the lead singer of Self Defense Family.
Drug Church divide listeners, if not for their sound but also their attitude. Kindlon has never been accused of mincing his words, and the band's debut album was called Paul Walker, after the late actor. While that could now be perceived to be in poor taste, the album was unfortunately timed, released just four months before the Fast And Furious star's untimely death. I personally like the music they make, but if you've made it this far into the article I'm sure you've already made up your own mind.
Hit Your Head is due out on 30th October 2015 via No Sleep Records, and was produced by Jay Maas of Defeater.
