I love Bloc Party, and unlike some I really liked 2012's Four, so when news broke of another revival of the band, I had every right to be excited. Times have changed in the past three years however and with two of the original members having left, the band now looks very different but the question was always going to be if they sounded like a different band.
If 'The Love Within', the first single from the upcoming fifth album, is anything to go by, then fans should be ready to alter those expectations. Leaving a lot to be desired, I've now become familiar enough with the synth sounding track (it's actually all played on Russell Lissack's guitar) to not just criticise it too harshly whereas many fans are far from convinced. To put this into context, the song was released over a month ago, but I've only just got over the initial disappointment to write about it.
There might be a few redeeming qualities, with comparisons have been made to Frontman Kele's solo material, so while I refuse to discount the album as whole, I'm praying that the future singles are stronger.
Hymns is set to be released on 29th January 2016 via BMG.
