Slaves are continuing their charm offensive and have won particular favour from me for covering Skepta's latest track 'Shutdown'.
The up and coming punks from Tunbridge Wells recently thrilled me with their single 'Cheer Up London', and have now taken to Radio 1's Live Lounge to perform an obligatory cover. Thankfully they chose well, (unlike Jamie T with his recent rendition of 'All About That Bass') and spoke to host Fern Cotton about their love of grime.
The song begins at the 1:53 mark and while drummer and singer Issac Holman keeps up with Skepta's delivery, guitarist Laurie Vincent delivers a very funny rendition of the telephone complaint that a member of the public made following Kanye West's BRITs performance of 'All Day', which Skepta was onstage for.
Slaves's debut album Are You Satisfied? is due out on 6th June, while Skepta's forthcoming Konnichiwa is still yet to receive a release date.
Give it a listen, you know it makes perfect sense.
