A while back a solid Kiwi guy I work with pointed me in the direction of his mate's band, and it proved to be a pleasant surprise. No Wyld originate from Auckland and merge a variety of sounds including indie, hip hop and a little bit of electronic for good measure to create their own sound that they've really refined since their formation in 2010.
My introduction to the band was long enough ago that they were then called The Wyld, but they need not rely on friends and family to promote their music these days as their latest track 'Let Me Know', above, was picked up by EA Sports for a FIFA 16 trailer. That's not their first interaction with such a large corporation however as 'Odyssey', below, was used by McDonald's commercial during the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games which truly is a global stage.
With songs as cinematic and rich as these, it's understandable that companies are vying to license their music. One of the greatest compliments that I can pay is that their music holds similar qualities to that of Woodkid, an artist with whom I'm particularly enamoured, and that frontman Mo Kheir rapping style is reminiscent of Kid Cudi.
Having worked on their album in America throughout early 2015, details are still under wraps, but will surely come soon now that both 'Queen' featuring KAMAU and 'Let Me Know' have both surfaced.
Watch this space, No Wyld are taking over.
