James Vincent McMorrow is nearing the end of his intense touring cycle for his wonderful sophomore LP Post Tropical that dropped all the way back in January 2014 and as if taking the prestigious number four slot on my top albums of that year wasn't enough, he's given us one extra gift to round off the record - a solo reworking of album highlight 'Gold'.
In James' own words:
"I've been playing this song by myself recently and it's taken on a whole new resonance for me. I had a day off on tour last week so I thought I'd record a version of it, just one take: a mic and a keyboard in some hotel room somewhere...… Me being me, I ended up adding a couple of harmonies here and there; I couldn't help myself. But apart from that, what you hear is the song in it’s most simple form.
I wanted to make a video to go with it. I had this footage on my phone of my friend messing with lights outside the tour bus in Belgium one night; I thought it looked like fireflies dancing and it fit perfectly."
