Run The Jewels are my heroes. Ever since Killer Mike & El-P joined forces on Run The Jewels in 2013, the duo have been helping to shape the face of hip hop in their own remarkable style.
Ahead of the release of Run The Jewels 2 last year, the rappers announced different pre-order packages that ranged from the ordinary to the ridiculous, including the now infamous 'Meow The Jewels' option for a huge $50,000. Well the internet decided that this couldn't remain as just a joke, and after a successful Kickstarter campaign El-P pledged to record the album, and drafted in a host of famous friends. The result are now out, and could be yours for free.
Just Blaze (whose contribution can be heard below), Boots, Geoff Barrow of Portishead, MAssive Attack's 3D, Zola Jesus, Dan The Automator, The Alchemist and more remix tracks, whilst even Snopp Dogg makes an appearance.
If this all sounds ridiculous and you're losing faith in the state of music today then don't worry, this all stems from a good cause. All the profit from this record will go to the families of victims of police brutality. In the words of El-P himself on twitter:
"did we make the silliest, occasionally most grating possible remix album? of course. and we did it for you, mike brown and Eric garner."
