In 2011, a young girl broke into the public eye with a series of delicate covers. Going by the name Birdy, her exceptional voice was made even more impressive by the fact that she was only 15 when her debut album was released. Covering many of my favourite bands (The National, Phoenix, Bon Iver, Cherry Ghost, Fleet Foxes, The xx), I quickly convinced that she had a big future.
Returning now at the age of 19 for her third album, the first single 'Keeping Your Head Up' marks a new sound from Birdy, and it's not one I expected. On the track she's abandoned her alternative roots and opted for a more pop inspired sound. It's basically Ben Howard sentiment over a faux-Disclosure beat, and whilst it's pretty catchy I do feel as if it's a move into an already oversaturated market.
'Keeping You Head Up' is the first single from Beautiful Lies, which is due to be released on 25th March 2016 via Atlantic Records.
