December. This can only mean one thing...
That's right folks, it's time to get hyped for SESHWYN'S SESHMAS VOLUME 2. Carrying on from last year's foray into alternative Christmas music, we've selected 12 new festive favourites for you to enjoy, regardless of whether you've been naughty or nice. So sit back, grab a tipple, and enjoy our latest gift to you - SESHWYN Podcast Episode 15.
What's this you say? Well we've only gone and made a SESHMAS playlist for you to play at the family dinner table. All the tracks (available on Spotify) from our two Christmas podcasts in one place AND I've made the embedded player white for that rich seasonal symbolism. Don't say we never do anything for you.
Of course, this wouldn't be the SESHWYN podcast if everything was available on Spotify now would it...
First up Hanra gave us the indie couple: Wavves & Best Coast. I have no idea if the respective vocalists are still together but what I do know is that in 2010 they joined forces for the ever catchy 'Got Something For You' and as a result we've now got something for you.
Christy took us in a more sombre direction with Bad Blood's 'Winter Warlock (Pier 49)'. Hailing from Seattle, I really can't find much more on the band (apart from the fact frontman Conor Kiley used to front a glam-rock band called Holy Ghost Revival) but the song serves as another stark reminder that Christmas isn't always all fun and games for everyone.
On that note, I'd like to remind you to reach out to any friends and family who you haven't spoken to in a while, or you suspect could be lonely or suffering. It really shouldn't take an annual holiday or a random guy on the internet for you to do that either. Go and look after each other.
Hanra somehow found the Christmas themed synths (he really does a skill for seeking this stuff out), taking us way back to 1976 when Bruce Haack paired up with Ted Pandel on their Ebenezer Electric record. Whatever your thoughts on 'Oo Bah Humbug', you have to recognise how far ahead of his time Haack was, a true pioneer of the electronic music that kids love to go and do drugs to these days.
Christy rounded us out with Old Man Gloom, a band with a very apt name that features members of Cave In, Converge and Isis (not that one) so no wonder they're heavy as hell. Arguably the least 'Christmassy' of all the songs we played this time around but proof that there's something for everyone, no matter the season.
It might not be the one to play your kids as they're trying to get to sleep on Christmas Eve but it's a god damn rager so make sure it's played at some point on the 24th.
I'm sad to say that's it for another year but Christmas is just beginning so I hope you've found something you love that can brighten your countdown to the big day. It's no exaggeration to say that I'm already thinking ahead to SESHMAS 2018 but you'll just have to bide your time for that extravaganza.
Also festivities aside, we want to hear YOUR favourites from 2017. Songs, albums, artists, books, pints, cuisines, you name it, we'll discuss it. Hit us up over at @SESHWYN and we'll see you again at the end of December in Episode 16 for a round up of everything that 2017 has delivered. Until then:
Merry Christmas everybody, love from SESHWYN.
