New Touché Amore material being released? Fantastic. It's a split with Self Defense Family? Even better. The whole thing is a collaborative effort featuring 15 musicians working together as one band, and all produced by Will Yip? I think I might have to sit down and compose myself.
Being released by Deathwish in March, the two track EP feels long overdue given both bands' extensive split discographies and known friendship. The press release describes the first track 'Circa 95' as an "upbeat combination of Touche Amore’s explosive emotional leaning and Self Defense Family’s trademark cynicism." It sounds like my perfect track. The most interesting part to me of all is that in an interview with Jeremy Bolm, he stated that the two bands had written and worked on three tracks, yet only two are being released. Perhaps leaving the door open for future collaborations? Regardless of that, Self Love sounds very promising indeed.
