For those who don't know me, I don't sleep very well. It's a real shame, because it's something I wish I could do more of. As Scroobius Pip once said "I like sleeping man. It's a nice place to be". So when I received an email saying that Jeff Bridges has announced a new album entitled Sleeping Tapes, I was immediately intrigued.
The legendary actor is no stranger to music, having released two albums previously, and also featured heavily on the soundtrack to his film 'Crazy Heart' in which he plays a down and out Country music singer.
However, this ambient project strays just a bit from his previous works, and the press release attached to the album states: "The world is filled with too many restless people in need of rest – that's why I filled my sleeping tapes with intriguing sounds, noises and other things to help you get a good night's rest". As if that wasn't enough, 100% of the retail price from each album sold goes directly to No Kid Hungry, a charity aiming to end childhood hunger in America.
I've tried to listen to it a couple of times, but it hasn't been able to hold me as I keep falling sleep during it. Shit jokes aside, I'm actually excited to give it a go, and having The Dude whisper "You are a good person. You are worth all the good things that happen in your life" and so forth is actually surprisingly uplifting. It's yet to be seen whether or not it'll help my insomnia, but failing that, it's sure to make me feel pretty good about myself.
Good guy Jeff Bridges, living legend.
